Ingredients:

For the Beef:

  • 500g beef strips (sirloin, flank, or rump, thinly sliced)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

For the Sauce:

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1 tsp garlic paste (or 2 minced garlic cloves)
  • 1 tsp ginger paste (optional, for added depth)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (mixed with 1 tbsp water to thicken)

For the Stir Fry:

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 red bell pepper (sliced)
  • 1 carrot (julienned or thinly sliced)
  • 1/2 onion (sliced)
  • 2 spring onions (chopped for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Beef:
    • In a bowl, mix the beef strips with soy sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil.
    • Let marinate for 15-20 minutes while preparing other ingredients.
  2. Prepare the Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, garlic paste, and ginger paste. Mix in the water and set aside.
  3. Cook the Beef:
    • Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat.
    • Stir-fry the beef in batches for 1-2 minutes per side until just browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. Stir-Fry the Vegetables:
    • Add the remaining oil to the wok. Stir-fry broccoli, bell pepper, carrot, and onion for 3-5 minutes, until tender-crisp.
  5. Combine and Sauce:
    • Return the beef to the wok with the vegetables.
    • Pour in the sauce and stir to coat evenly.
    • Add the cornstarch slurry (if needed) to thicken the sauce. Stir for 1-2 minutes until the sauce is glossy and thickened.
  6. Serve:
    • Garnish with spring onions and sesame seeds.
    • Serve hot over steamed rice, fried rice, or noodles.
